    My name is Chen, Feng-jhu. There are five members in my family. My grandmother is an optimistic and kind woman. When I make mistakes, she always tells me ”Never mind, as long as you can learn a lesson from it and correct it, you will be better.” I keep these words in my mind, when I make mistakes, I will correct them rapidly. My father is a mild man. He teaches us with democratic ways. He lets us children choose what we want to do, and he always respects our decisions. I really respect my father. My mother is a career woman. I always share everything with her. I think she is toilsome because she has to work and do the housework. Sometimes I help her do the housework. My elder brother has been working, and he teaches me many things. He lets me know how to protect myself and get along with others. I am lucky to have this lovely family and I love my family very much.

School Life

  I studied at Department of Applied Foreign Languages, National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior High School (NTCVS). At first, my English ability wasn’t good. Therefore, I studied hard to improve my English ability. I always paid attention to what my teachers taught in class and took key notes. As my major was English, I studied English every day. I studied not only the textbooks but also English magazines. Besides, I watched English movies and listened to English songs as my recreation. I also made efforts in the sections of reading and vocabulary memorizing to strengthen my English ability. With my teachers’ encouragement, I took the General English Proficiency Test and passed the intermediate level of GEPT. I’m glad that my efforts paid off.

    Apart from studying hard, I also learned a lot from serving as cadre member as well as taking part in various clubs and activities. I have ever served as cleaning crew leader and P.E class leader. By being in charge of these positions, I got lots of precious experiences. For example, I knew how to communicate with others and how to deal with problem better. I also became more and more responsible. In addition, I took part in the story-telling competition with my classmate. We practiced a lot, and we helped each other correct their drawbacks. Although we didn’t get good grade in the competition, we learned the importance of teamwork. I think it was a great experience.

  I’m also good at sports. I joined the volleyball team, for I was interested in playing volleyball. At first, I didn’t know how to play volleyball well, but the coach and seniors taught me patiently. With my own efforts, I can play volleyball well now. We attended many games, and every game was the precious experience. We can learn how to improve our skills in the next game. I also learned the importance of teamwork and encouragement. Moreover, I am also good at running. I often got the top three prizes on the sports day. I really enjoy my life with my classmates in senior high school. I am lucky to meet these lovely people.

My name is Yang. I am 17 years old. My English name is Wendy. There are seven people in my family, and I am the second child among five. My father is the undertaker of a factory and my mother is a housewife. My sister is a university student, while my younger sisters and brothers are junior high school students. Luckily, I have a happy family with open-minded parents and a life with affluent materials.

Since I was a kindergarten student, I have enjoyed singing and dancing very much. Usually, I volunteered to perform in front of the class. I remembered then, I liked to watch variety shows, and that's how I learned to sing popular songs. Those singers and actors who perform in TV programs were my idols.     This summer, my drama club had produced a play called “Aladdin” as our graduation ceremony show. I played Aladdin's mother, a comic role in the play with greedy and sarcastic characteristics. Because it is a musical, all the performers had to sing and dance at the same time. And thanks to two professional teachers who volunteered to instruct us, we even did the chorus during the play which was a quartet with fantastic dancing. During the holidays we came to school doing rehearsals and made costumes and props. We did the play very successfully and that was really a wonderful experience. I was so enchanted by this creative stage world that I started to consider seriously whether this is a dream for me to pursue. My parents told me to do what I want but not what I am expected to and this is why I decided to apply for the drama department.

    I want to become a stage actress, just like other companions who have the same ideal. To me, a play can not only offer people entertainment, but also, most of the time, provide people with a different point of view toward lives. Compared with those who come from a professional school with fully trained skills, maybe I am far too idealistic and naïve. I know nothing is easy and I think being a drama department student would be a big challenge. I learned a line from my English teacher, which is “Not until you give it a try will you not know the result.” I got passion and expectation to myself, and wish you would give me an opportunity to make my dream come true.

   I once lived in Taipei, and worked as a volunteer in a hospital. It really felt good to get the opportunities to help people. One morning an elderly woman who was badly hurt in an accident was sent to the hospital. Her family was anxious, and asked the doctors and nurses for help. I rushed to them, and did them a favor before the doctors and nurses came. After a four-hour operation, the elderly woman was out of danger. But she lost one of her legs and she had to stay in the hospital for at least one month. During these days she stayed in the hospital, I went to visit her and took care of her every day. At first, she was always in a depressing mood and she didn't want to talk to others, but I never gave up chatting with her and told her that she will get well soon. Finally, she opened her mind and talked to me. I was glad that she was reborn, and we also became good friends. One month later, she was released from the hospital. We still kept in touch and we often helped somebody else those who were in need. We are lucky for meeting each other and doing something meaningful together. We won't let the chain of love disappear.

  Many people are concerned about the issue about death penalty. Some of them think it should exist, while the others have the opposite views. I think that the death penalty should exist. First of all, it deters people from committing crimes. When people want to commit crimes, they will think of the consequence and stop to do what they want to do. Second, it makes criminals pay the untimate price. Because they killed people, they had to pay for what they had done. No one has the power to deprive of one's life. Finally, it rids society of menaces. We don't have to live under the fear. Although it sometimes means killing an innocent person, the probability is tiny. It is for all the above-mentioned reasons that I support the exist of the death penalty.

I don't like a rainy day

  There are some reasons why I don't like a rainy day. First, I don't like my schedule what I have planned in advance being suspended because of rain. It's really bad that your plan was suspended. Second, the clothes that I have to wear the next day will dry slowly even not dry. So, I have to dry my clothes with a hair dryer. Fianlly, everything will be inconvenient in a rainy day. Therefore, I wandered on the street and looked for my family. However, it was too difficult to find my family. I felt hungry and tired. I couldn't walk any more so I sat on the roadside helplessly. All of a sudden, a car pulled up in front of me, and I saw my parents getting out of the car, and gave me a huge embrace. I was so pleasant that the tears rolled down my face. From then on, my parents always hold my hands tight when we go out lest I should get lost again.

At first, she was always in a depressing mood and she didn't want to talk to others, but I never gave up chatting with her and told her that she will get well soon. Finally, she opened her mind and talked to me. I was glad that she was reborn, and we also became good friends. One month later, she was released from the hospital. We still kept in touch and we often helped somebody else those who were in need. We are lucky for meeting each other and doing something meamingful together. We won't let the chain of love disappear.
